He has made printing ink of lemons and oil. Brooker is using oil from the environmental disaster to make Necklaces and print T-shirts. Some of the proceeds he will donate to wildlife groups.

In order to print the T-shirts, the oil is mixed with the ink. The necklaces come with a vial of oil attached. Prices for the pieces start at 20 bucks.

The amount which goes to environmental charities is five bucks. The customer may choose which one he prefers out of the following selection: Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, National Wildlife Federation and the National Audubon Society.

Every shirt and necklace says Brooker, represents one small step taken to clean up the Gulf.

The T-shirts may be found at ihelpedcleanupthegulfoilspill.com.

The page reads:

“Oil used to print the t-shirts or contained in our vial necklaces won’t be in the Gulf anymore and that’s a good thing!”

“Admittedly, the amounts of oil used are small and meant to be symbolic. By purchasing our Gulf Oil Necklaces and T-Shirts you show that you are doing your part to help clean up this mess.”

Every day that the chances for a Climate Change Bill drift further from the shore, the coal lobby becomes increasingly optimistic.

Friends of Big Coal on Capitol Hill, however, are insisting that they put the partying on pause. The Fat Lady has not yet sung the song for the coal industry — and she probably won’t.

Coal in the United States will soon go from the most popular and cheapest source of electricity to among the most expensive.

A New clean air and water regulations act will kick in next year – that is, combined with a boost in new natural-gas supply and a projected nuclear-power renaissance will do its damage to Big Coal and that is a Big Bonus for the environment.

The only policy that could possibly protect coal is the price on carbon which they are now fighting.

For many decades now, coal has been the nation’s foremost source of power, supplying roughly half of the nation’s electricity, while natural gas and nuclear energy generated about 20% of the national supply each, respectively – renewable made up the rest.

In the next two years though, the Environmental Protection Agency will introduce tough new regulations on coal pollutants such as the terrible acid-rain-causing sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide.

Well, also hitting the streets are brand new Clean Water Act regulations on coal, as well as myriad mining safety regulations.

All of the above will add to the price of coal thereby diminishing its novelty.

Well, in the meantime, utilities are rejoicing over the discovery of abundant domestic supplies of natural gas and anticipating new nuclear power plants in the coming years.

All of this is despite the likely fact of failure for any climate change legislation to happen this year.

Coal is a chemically complex fuel. Whenever and wherever it is burned, gases are given off and particles of ash — “fly ash” — get released. The sulfur in coal combines with oxygen to form sulfur
dioxide; this can be a major source of air pollution if emitted in large enough quantities.

A new facility in the UK, Adnams Bio Energy anaerobic digestion plan, using brewery waste and local food waste will begin producing renewable gas which can be used as liquid fuel among other things.

Working in partnership with National Grid, the facility expects to generate up to 4.8 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year – that is enough to heat 235 family homes annually.

Well, the average home in the UK burns 56 kilowatt-hours of gas per day. The same amount of energy which could be generated from the waste left behind from brewing roughly 600 pints of beer.

Some 28 million pints of beer are enjoyed daily by Britons — well, the waste from brewing that much beer could produce enough biomethane to heat 47,000 homes.

The Adnams plant plans to be able to produce enough renewable gas to power the company’s brewery and run its fleet of lorries, while leaving up to 60% of the remaining output available for injection back into the national grid.

By diverting waste from landfill, the plant will also prevent the release of methane into the atmosphere.

Biomethane is like natural gas. Once it’s upgraded to grid specification, it may be injected into the gas network to be used by customers.

National Grid suggests that biomethane could account for at least 15% of domestic gas consumption by the often-cited year 2020.

The Adnams Bio Energy plant has three digesters – these are sealed vessels in which naturally-occurring bacteria act without oxygen to break down up to 12,500 tons of organic waste every year. In addition to producing biomethane, the process also yields a liquid organic fertilizer.

Working in connection with Centrica, the parent company of British Gas, Adnams Bio Energy has also deployed British solar thermal panels at the plant and will soon install cutting-edge photovoltaic cells on site, thereby creating a sort-of mini energy park.

It was reported in the British newspaper the Daily Telegraph that the Japanese government has launched a campaign which encourages people to get to bed and get up extra early in order to cut-down household carbon dioxide emissions.

The Environment Ministry unveiled the Morning Challenge campaign, basing it on the premise that swapping late night electricity for an extra hour of morning sunlight could significantly reduce the carbon footprint of that nation.

If everyone goes to bed and gets up one hour earlier, a typical family can reduce its carbon dioxide footprint by 85kg a year. That is quite a feat.

“Many Japanese people waste electric power at night time, for example by watching TV until very late…But going to bed early and getting up early can avoid wasting electrical power which causes carbon dioxide emissions. If people change their lifestyle, we can save energy and reduce emissions.”

Well, the campaign also suggests that people take advantage of an extra hour of morning sunlight by improving their lifestyles through activities such as running, doing yoga and eating a nutritious and well-balanced breakfast.

This is the latest initiative in tackling climate change by the Japanese environment ministry, which is challenged with the task of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 25% from 1990 levels within the decade-to-come.

Actually, it was the same government department which launched the high profile Cool Biz campaign five years ago, which encourages workers to wear short-sleeved shirts and offices not to turn air con lower than 28 degrees during the summer.

Sting is famous for his involvement with the Rainforest Foundation, which he co-founded in 1989 with his wife Trudie Styler. The foundation seeks to protect the Amazon rainforest from deforestation. Well, last month the music legend played a benefit concert for the organization.

But Sting’s eco-friendly activism does not stop there. He is also involved in other environmental causes such as supporting sustainable food – which is the inspiration for the artist’s next production: Sting is producing a film about Vertical Farming.

Sting and manager Kathryn Shenker, the project’s partner, purchased the film rights to:
The Vertical Farm: Feeding Ourselves and the World in the 21st Century. The book written by the concept’s proponent Dr. Dickson Despommier, a professor at Manhattan’s Columbia University, is set to be released in October by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press.

Vertical farming is a system of farming in which food is grown within tall city buildings as quite an effectual means of using land and a way to get fresh food to the local residents.

The book describes the system as such:

“Imagine a world where every town has its own local food source, grown in the safest way possible, where no drop of water or particle of light is wasted, and where a simple elevator ride can transport you to nature’s grocery store—imagine the world of the vertical farm.”

Sting says that the film will document the first vertical farm to be constructed in a major U.S. city. The movie will be shot in Newark, New Jersey.

Last week, Mayor Richard M. Daley of Chicago made the announcement that he is also supporting plans to establish a vertical farm in Chicago. In a building near Milwaukee’s former historic stockyards, at a conference last week, Daley spoke of his vision of organic foods grown the year-round.

Actually, the Chicago Sustainable Manufacturing Center is working with the Illinois Institute of Technology on a vertical farm called The Plant. The plan, located in an old meatpacking plant, will develop a vertical farm including farming Tilapia and then recycling the wastewater from the fish tanks for the plants in the building.

Vertical farming proposals have actually been much talked about throughout the last decade, as an agricultural solution for world hunger in the 21st century created in high-rises as a sustainable form of urban agriculture.

Jimmy Buffet, a songwriter famous for such tropical-tinged country classics as, “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburgers in Paradise” is planning to open a 162-room Margaritaville Hotel this week in Pensacola Beach, Flordia.
That’s right, he is steadfast in his plans – unswayed by tar balls floating ashore from an oil Plume – shooting out of the floor of the Gulf.

In an impromptu session of interviews and photos on the beach with Florida Governor, Charlie Crist, The Parrot Head told his fans that he spent much time in Pensacola Beach, while growing up in nearby Alabama. His favorite memories, he said, were of sunsets in the fall. He jokingly said that he also enjoys sunrises, though most of the time, sleeps through them.

Buffet insists that the community will get through the oil spill crisis, simply by pulling together. He wants the people in the area to understand that he is there for them as the oil encroaches on their livelihoods and leisure.
If Jimmy Buffett has any talent, it is for “helping people forget their troubles for a couple of hours,” the music legend proclaimed.
The $50 million hotel stands on the Gulf of Mexico, near the main section of Pensacola Beach. Hundreds of applicants lined up outside last week for a job fair even as TV trucks filled a nearby parking lot to report on the oil slick’s arrival.
The hotel actually sits on land where Hurricane Ivan destroyed a previous hotel in 2004.

Environmental news is an all-embracing category – and so it needs to be in order to sustain longevity of popular interest and legitimacy even. Hey we can’t count emissions all day and expect that people won’t eventually get tired. NaturalBuy.com has got to stay fresh you see, like the necessary dynamics in a healthy marriage.

So, this being said, we shall consider Al and Tipper’s separation worthy of the NaturalBuy.com canvas.

“After a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate…This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together.”

E-mailed the Gores.

The 40-year marriage of these high school sweethearts slowly eroded like too many coastlines, after losing the 2000 presidential election and the near-death of one of their children. The erosion was slow and subtle.

Being on the road so often made the 62-year-old former vice president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate increasingly isolated from his wife.

The word “Gore” became synonymous with climate change in the 21st century. Gore won a Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar for his revolutionary documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” in 2007, which is responsible for the neo-environmental movement.

In the movie which grossed $49,000,000 and cost about $1,000,000, Gore discusses the scientific opinion on climate change, as well as the present and future effects of global warming. He famously stresses that climate change “is really not a political issue, so much as a moral one.”

Al and Tipper agree that if either the environment or a marriage need to be saved, the former is the more pressing.

Once upon a time there was an evil man who wanted to steal all of the light on planet earth. He wore a crown made of sulfate crystals which attracted rays from the sun. He kept it all locked up in a special room underneath his palace; and for many years the planet went without light. Until, finally one day emerged from the darkness, a fierce militia. The whole time they had been hiding underground with a pack of elephants; living on rehydratable food and slowly gathering the strength to defeat the sorcerer.

They had dug all of the way to the planet’s core, lowering the elephants down along with them; and there they gathered their energy. They practiced not thinking about their beloved brethren, as any show of emotion would weaken their spirits.

Finally, one day the militia created a device which shot all of the way back to the earth’s surface, to the evil palace, to the underground room, and even to the crown of the sorcerer.

After destroying the crown with the very light which it served to absorb, they collected the recaptured rays, filled them in a giant stone box, and returned it to the planet, thinking that they would save whatever was left of humanity and nature above ground. But they found it was already too late; and so they saddled up their elephants and headed for the palace, thinking that the sorcerer would pose no threat without his crown.

What ensued was a melee, a fierce, fierce melee; the likes of which the planet has never seen. The sorcerer still had enough left-over ultra violet matter to create weapons. The militia, using nothing but their bare fists and the whipping tail of the elephants, were able to pin the sorcerer in a corner of the room which had been previously used for storing the light.

“I see that you have successfully pinned me, perhaps I have underestimated your race”

Said the sorcerer. He put out his hand in a show of peace and one of the militia men went to embrace it, but the head of the militia stopped him.

“You fool he is trying to trick us!”

Exclaimed the leader.

And sure enough at that moment the sorcerer reached for one of his ultra violet guns and shot the one member of the militia, but the rest of them jumped on him and seized all of the weapons; turning them on the sorcerer, and putting him to death.

They hung the sorcerer on the gate of his palace and took turns defiling the corpse, as it swung back and forth. Then they roasted it and fed it to the elephants, who were not vegetarians.

The militia rejoiced and began to procreate and build a new civilization. And in time, with all of the light shining down on the planet once again, the trees and the forests began to grow, new life was found, of course the elephants were honored by the people with the gift of a boundless terrain.

They founded a global holiday on the anniversary of the sorcerer’s defeat; and they sang this song:

“FIRE SONG DANCE DELIGHT
IN REBORN LIFE SPLENDID DELIGHT,
SEE THE SPIRIT FEEL IT IN THE AIR,
CALL IT YOUR OWN AND IT SHALL DISAPPEAR!”

Researchers were stunned last week when a gray whale was sighted in Israel. It is believed to be the first such sighting outside the Pacific Ocean in 300 years!

Typically, gray whales are only found in the Pacific Ocean. After years of hunting, they vanished in the North Atlantic around the 17th or 18th centuries.
In order to be spotted in the Mediterranean Sea, the gray whale traveled “a huge distance from its natural habitat thousands of kilometers away,” and one researcher said it was “bizarre in the extreme,” per BBC.

Researcher Phillip Clapham of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said:

“There are really only two explanations: that there has been a relict population in the N Atlantic that no one has noticed (virtually impossible), or (more likely) that this whale came down through the ice-free Northwest Passage and is now hopelessly lost.”

Because of disagreements about offshore drilling and immigration reform, a key Republican senator negotiating with Democrats on a climate change bill that it is “become impossible” to get the legislation passed right now.
Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is the one doing the complaining:

“Regrettably, in my view, this has become impossible in the current environment…I believe there could be more than 60 votes for this bipartisan concept in the future. But there are not nearly 60 votes today and I do not see them materializing until we deal with the uncertainty of the immigration debate and the consequences of the oil spill.”

Sixty votes are needed in the Senate to overcome such filibusters:

In April, Graham threatened to withhold personal support for the climate and energy legislation because he was peeved that Democrats said that they would take up a rewrite of immigration policy; which forced his Democrat partners, John Kerry and Joe Lieberman to postpone unveiling the legislation, which aimed to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases 17% below 2005 levels by the year 2020.
Kerry and Lieberman have since decided to unveil the bill on May 12th.

About the oil spill in the Gulf, Senator Graham said:

“Some believe the oil spill has enhanced the chances energy legislation will succeed. I do not share their view…When it comes to getting 60 votes for legislation that includes additional oil and gas drilling with revenue sharing, the climb has gotten steeper because of the oil spill.”

Senators Kerry and Lieberman released the following joint statement which comes as news to the relief of Graham:

“We appreciate Senator Graham’s statement of his continued commitment to passing comprehensive energy independence legislation. Over the past several months we have worked with Senator Graham and he has made a significant contribution to construct balanced legislation that will make our country energy independent, create jobs and curb pollution. Senator Graham has been our partner in building a broad-based coalition of support for legislation that can pass the Senate this year…”

“…Over the last three weeks, we all understand Lindsey has been busy with the immigration issue and we understand his feelings on that issue, but during this period we’ve continued working, moving forward, and talking in great detail with our Senate colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and with the environmental and business communities. We’ve continued to work with the Senate leadership and the White House, and we believe we’ve made new progress on the path to 60 votes…”

“We are more encouraged today that we can secure the necessary votes to pass this legislation this year in part because the last weeks have given everyone with a stake in this issue a heightened understanding that as a nation, we can no longer wait to solve this problem which threatens our economy, our security and our environment. Our optimism is bolstered because there is a growing and unprecedented bi-partisan coalition from the business, national security, faith and environmental communities that supports our legislation and is energized to work hard and get it passed. We look forward to rolling-out the legislation next Wednesday and passing the legislation with the support of Senator Graham and other Republicans, Democrats and Independents this year.”
